Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards – Métis Jig Creative Video

On Saturday, September 24th, the annual Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards ceremony was held at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre in Edmonton. Our Lindisfarne production team was happy to produce a special creative video for the event.

The Belcourt Brasseau Métis Awards was founded by cousins Herb & Orval Belcourt, and their friend Georges Brosseau. The fund was created under the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to support post-secondary education for Métis youth in Alberta.

“Since 2002, the awards have provided more than $5.8 million related to over 1,300 awards to more than 900 Métis Albertans studying at institutions across Alberta and beyond, making it the largest non-governmental source of student funding for Métis students in Canada.”

For the awards, our team had the opportunity to produce a special creative video portraying the Métis Jig: a traditional Métis dance whose origins lie in the traditional dances of French, English, Scottish, First Nations, and Arcadian peoples from whom the Métis Nation was born. With the help of a group of talented local dancers and musicians, including the Logan Alexis Round Dance Singers and Grand Master Fiddle Champion Daniel Gervais, we were able to bring the story of the Métis Jig to life.

Set against the beautiful backdrops of the Fort Edmonton Park Clerk’s Quarters and various spots in the beautiful Edmonton River Valley, the surroundings helped to bring context to the history of the the Métis Jig and enhance the natural talent of our dancers. Traditional costumes and accessories were worn to help distinguish and celebrate the heritage of each of their dances .

It was an extreme privilege for our team to learn about the Métis Jig and create a video honouring this beautiful tradition. We hope that the video serves to educate future viewers and truly celebrate the history of the Métis Jig.
