The crew at Lindisfarne Productions was asked to help create a pandemic response video to highlight the hard work of the folks at ABC Head Start. This pandemic response video highlights the staff’s adaptability and innovation in continuing to provide quality service to the community during the pandemic.
It was very important for ABC Head Start to stay available to Edmonton families during the pandemic. For many families, a break in services would result in many challenges and setbacks. Staying available required a balance of providing continuity for students, while still ensuring the safety of staff and families. Facing the many challenges produced by pandemic protocols and restrictions, ABC Head Start went above and beyond to focus not just on the educational services they provide, but to also help provide access to basic needs for their families.
Some of the extra pandemic services provided by ABC Head Start staff were: resources for providing basic needs such as food and clothing to families, preschool toolkits to help keep children busy and engaged while staying home, ipad loans for families lacking access to technology, and providing virtual sessions rather than in person meetings. All of this hard work and extra effort lead the way to an efficient return to safe in-person learning once pandemic restrictions lifted.
The pandemic was a difficult time for everyone. We were inspired to see how the important work of organizations like ABC Head Start helped to ensure continuity of services for those in need. Their hard work ensured the children and families they support continued to have access to many necessary tools, supports, and services.
