In 2024, Lindisfarne Productions had the opportunity to produce new occupational videos for the Government of Alberta alis initiative.
For years, the alis.alberta.ca website has been assisting Albertans in finding careers that suit their skills, personalities, and life goals. They do so by offering practical information and occupation videos for over 575 occupations. Each occupational profile provides information like educational requirements, salary ranges, day to day duties, responsibilities, and working conditions.
For this year’s occupational videos we filmed across the province. Every year we get to speak to unique and interesting Albertans and learn about exciting and innovative careers. This year was no different!
Some of the occupations we covered this year include:
Floral designer
Floral designers create floral arrangements. They may purchase, sell, and care for flowers and potted plants. They may work in independent retail flower shops or chains, the floral departments of big-box stores or supermarkets, or as private consultants.
Advertising copywriter
Advertising copywriters create concepts and write ads. The ads can be for print, broadcast media, digital, or outdoor use.
Anthropologist
Anthropologists study the past and present nature of human cultures, societies, and languages. They also study the biological make-up, adaptations, and evolution of human beings and their primate kin.
Professional investigator
Professional investigators gather information to secure evidence. Evidence may relate to a wide range of private, corporate, government, and legal interests.
Bylaw enforcement officer
Bylaw enforcement officers work for municipalities (such as counties, towns, and cities) to enforce local bylaws. Some may also be appointed as special constables (community peace officers). They enforce certain provincial statutes in their areas.
Entomologist
Entomologists study the classification, biodiversity, life cycles, ecology, and control of insects and other terrestrial arthropods. They plan and implement surveys and pest management programs.
Reporter
Reporters gather information and write articles for print media (newspapers and magazines) or prepare news items (written, audiotaped, or videotaped) for broadcast on radio, television, or digital media.
